This week, UBC REC Leagues and Domino’s Pizza is proud to present the Ref of the Week to a man who not only officiates for the SRC Futsal league, but also is a key member of his Men’s Division futsal team, FREE OJ. Daniel Mcleod has been reffing for UBC REC since September of last year. We caught up with him earlier this week to learn more about the man behind the whistle.
In addition to playing futsal, Daniel also stays active through swimming, cycling, and running. His favourite soccer star is Robin Van Persie because of “his electric style, bursts of speed, and his celebrations”. When asked about if he ever considered reffing the Handley Cup Soccer league, he responded, “I like the outdoors, it is also nice to run on turf. But the weather in Vancouver can be unpredictable and running in the snow is not the best!”
Daniel’s favourite part about reffing is his continued involvement with UBC REC. Did you know that Daniel volunteered for our very own Soccer/Futsal League last year as an Assistant Director? Unfortunately due to other commitments, he was unable to continue as an Assistant Director, but was pleased to find that he could stay a part of the organization through reffing.
For our SRC Futsal League all-star readers in cyberspace, Daniel’s words of advice are “play hard, but play fair!”
On behalf of UBC REC staff, participants and Domino’s Pizza, we’d like to say thank you to Daniel for his awesome participation and involvement with the SRC Futsal League!
If you or your friends know of any referees that have positively impacted your UBC REC experience, send a shout out to sponsorship@ubc.rec.ca letting us know who and why. Don’t forget play hard, but play fair!
