This year’s Lace-Up For Kids was a big success, raising $26, 614 for the United Way’s “School’s Out” program. The night went off without a hitch, as participants skated around the track 25,000 times.
The top student team this year was “To Totem and Beyond” raising a whopping $2454.50, with their massively successful “Buy your Advisor” campaign being largely responsible for this! Furthermore, our featured top fundraiser from last week, Kelsey Michelle Tham, was able to stay on top as the top individual fundraiser, having raised $1713.
Not all the action took place on the ice rink that night, with a whole plethora of performances taking place off the ice. The UBC dance team, The UBC Dance Horizon team, and Now or Never dance crew provided some exciting moves that helped boost everyone’s energy as the night progressed. DJ Miss M, and the Sonic Boom A Capella group also provided first class performances for the participants of Lace-Up.
Ice skating wasn’t the only way to spend the night, a wide variety of activities kept things interesting for participants in between skating. For the young and young at heart, face-painting booths, a bouncy castle, cotton candy, a cookie making station, as well as a coloring booth provided smiles all around. While those looking for a challenge were satiated by the golf and hockey challenge booths, as well as the Kinect dance station, where those bold enough were able to showcase their best moves for all to see. Also a big hit was The Point run photo booth, which provided a variety of wacky clothes and props for participants to dress up in, and then have their pictures taken in.
