2011 Pirates vs. Mermaids: The ultimate showdown at this year’s Water Wars!

UBC, a leading research institution, is always finding answers to some of the world’s most challenging and important questions. UBC REC is no different. Ever wonder about the age-old question of who would win between a mermaid and a pirate? Yeah, REC wonders too.  Well, wait no more, as the answer will be revealed at UBC REC’s Water Wars, being held on Thursday November 17th at the UBC Aquatic Centre.

Can anything stop these sultry sirens?

Is it the summer time sun-kissed locks, lack of clothing or permanent state of being wet that makes mermaids such a force to be reckoned with?  Only pirates know the answer to that. It has long been told that these sassy mythical creatures are the Achilles heel of any treasure seeking pirate.

However, many mermaids lose the battle after being taken with a pirate’s often unrefined appearance, rogue personality and adventurous, seafaring lifestyle.

Jack Sparrow: the foil to any mermaid

This always-sexy battle has taken a more serious, ethical turn recently with the release of statistics linking pirates to ever increasing global temperatures, threatening the lives of mermaids everywhere.

Intrigued? Get a team of 6-10 people together to find the answer to this burning question, as you compete in an all out water war. Mermaids vs. Pirates will be decided once and for all the night of Thursday, November 17th. If you’re not doing it for the pure elation of a fun filled, sexy night at the pool, do it for Mother Earth: she needs you now!  Register by November 10th at 5:00pm to participate in the year’s slipperiest moon light challenge of athleticism, creativity and sex appeal!

See you under the sea!
